I think it goes both ways. It depends if you start from objects in your life and questions or from a more theoretical point like books or studies.
Most importantly, I believe that learning is our way of deciphering the world. It is based on curiosity and exploration. This is how babies start and it's amazing to manage to look at the world through their eyes.
